Oh so cute

Bicycle helmets that look like a cap. For times when you’re cycling around the neighbourhood and don’t wanna look like a biker.

Guess where this is?

It’s East Coast Park! Unbelievable, isn’t it? This bowl is scary deep and impossible to climb out of unless on a bike with momentum. Definitely not for the faint-hearted, and not a good idea not to have your protective gear on.

Hunting, localised

We set off at 6am today for a ride and brought along knives and tupperware… cos it’s the durian season and time to make a harvest! The thumping sound of falling durians really gets one excited.

Tips from the seasoned uncles, who were surprisingly friendly and non-territorial:

- durians fall at night around 11pm to midnight, and 9-10am in the morning
- the freshest, just fallen durians would have a slightly damp stem removed from its parent stem.
- those with its parent stem still intact were probably fallen due to the wind, or the monkeys – so they might still be unripe
- when picking durians, don’t eat durians or you’ll be immune to its smell and find it difficult to sniff them out

Cargo Bikes

I don’t live in the United States so I’m not eligible for this contest, but I love it so I’m just gonna post this. Can you imagine my dog Cookie sitting in the bucket and us cycling down the countryside? Hah, no… But I can dream.

chapel street

chapel st

And we walked a fair bit along Chapel Street – where Jon used to live, and I tried to imagine him as a student then. Actually we aren’t that different from the students and think we could possibly pass off as one of them. We’re still young! At least we’d like to think so.

back to my world

I’m back from Melbourne and not sure if I’m missing the lattes and eggs more, or the comfort of my home and some bak chor mee. I’m glad I’m still on leave the next two days, I think I shall go Bedok 85 for lunch tmr to grab some bak chor mee.

Melbourne was great but as always, too short! I’m glad for the company of friends and I guess that’s the highlight of the trip. It was great meeting up again with Isaac and Tricia; and I like it that now I’ve got images of the environment they’re in when we chat online.

One of the highlights must be the trip to Sorrento, Mornington Peninsula. We had a BBQ with really excellent food and a few of us went back again yesterday to the Peninsula Hot Springs. The hot springs were the best ever – it filled my senses to the brim and made my toes tingle. Best ever.

Happy at our balcony in our family suite at Sorrento

More pics when I’ve sorted them out!

pleasure in the pathless woods

That’s my friend Pok trying to be funny while we were taking a photo. And it turned out quite funny and it made us laugh.

So the Melbourne trip so far has mostly been hanging out with friends we came here with, visiting friends I’ve not seen for ages, and meeting new friends of friends. It’s relaxed, with no real itinerary and I like it that way.

We just decided to go off to a beach house cottage tomorrow, just to chill and get out of the city. I hope we get a BBQ going!
