I love this dress; how it feels next to my skin, and I marvel at how the drapery is done so intricately and delicately. I snagged this off The Link’s sample sale – no, not a Vera Wang, but a Alberta Ferreti. Love.

I can’t remember what the occasion was, but Jon bought a bouquet of flowers to surprise me after work and he brought me to Villa Bali for a nice dinner. Kinda nice to still go out for dates after so long?

Good coffee and vanilla ice cream

Saturdays are great for meeting friends, and for sneaking in nice little dates.

We had a cuppa coffee (two actually, for each of us) before heading to meet our friends for Zach & Cyn’s engagement dinner; and after that, a spontaneous trip to Macs after midnight for some vanilla ice cream cone.

And I just have to say, Papa Palheta is a dream. We were recommended by Soo Ming, a coffee fanatic who really knows his beans, after lamenting how difficult it is to get good coffee here in Singapore. That is, apart from the Kopi-O and Kopi-C which I love too.

So, Papa Palheta is a retail shop selling coffee beans, but they’re also set up like a cafe for you to taste their coffee. It runs on a tipping basis – and I really admire their guts for doing that in kiasu Singapore, and the people there are really friendly. (btw, we gave $20 for 4 cups of coffee – think that’s decent).

Just watched An Education and I really loved it. I love a romantic, period film with a female protagonist. I’ll say Carey Mulligan is my latest favourite female actress! Other than Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley. I love a classic woman. If I had a daughter, I’ll give her a classic name. It might be generic, but with the hybrid names these days, maybe classic names will eventually be unique again.

Jon and I possibly made our biggest purchase so far on our own. We gave ourselves a budget but didn’t wanna compromise on the car make, so we looked around for a decent second hand and got ourselves a Suzuki Swift 1.5 litre manual transmission.

Actually, I think the sports rims won Jon over. It seems when it comes to cars, most men have a little ah beng hidden in them. I am dating a closet beng.

Growing older…

doesn’t mean you stop celebrating your birthday. Doesn’t mean you’ve gotta have a quiet, boring evening. My colleagues (I’d rather call them friends actually, but they happen to be my colleagues too) decided I should go partying and insisted they’ll make me drunk.

I worked very hard not to puke, not to get drunk, and aimed to reach a point where I was just happy. I think my wish came true, except I took a little too long (2 days) to recover from one night of partying. And I’m embarrassed to admit this – my knees hurt while dancing. Help me, Glucosamine!

To sum this year up, I…
- decided I needed to do pro bono work outside the office, and volunteered to help out with the cycling community. It’s definitely not a noble, charitable cause but it’s a start doing something just because I want to.

- started using anti-ageing products and eye cream. I’m currently using Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair and Time Zone eye cream.

- bought a car together with Jon just a week before my birthday. It’s a grey Suzuki Swift 1.5 litre manual transmission, and I’m starting to like driving a manual car.

- signed a package to remove certain parts of my hair permanently. Thanks for being with me the past 26 years, but I think I don’t need you anymore.

- came in first in a mountain bike race. It’s been a long time since I came in first for anything, although this time there were only just 2 female competitors so it isn’t such a big deal. But it’s gonna be increasingly difficult with age and wonky knees so this might possibly be the last.

- am gonna see my brother get married in a few weeks’ time. I can’t imagine him as a husband, or a father, even though he’ll be perfect.

- am making a career change. And I pray it’ll be good.
